Developing life-saving solutions for rheumatic heart disease, and pneunomia.
No child, no person, should die for lack of oxygen. Severe pneumonia in children and severe newborn illnesses, for which oxygen is a life-saving treatment, are leading causes of death in the Pacific and worldwide. This project addresses the pressing and challenging need in the Pacific to ensure that those needing oxygen, those with severe hypoxic (oxygen-starved) illnesses, get it.
Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a significant health problem in Fiji, with the Pacific region having one of the highest reported RHD incidences in the world. In Fiji, at least 60 deaths a year are attributed to RHD. In 2014, a four-year partnership project commenced with the aim of preventing and reducing the impact of RHD in the Fiji Islands.
