Cure Kids Receives a $100,000 Boost from The a2 Milk Company to Advance Child Health Research

Cure Kids, New Zealand’s largest funder of child health research outside the government, is pleased to announce a donation of $100,000 from The a2 Milk Company (a2MC). This significant contribution will further support crucial child health research.

This donation extends a2MC’s longstanding support of Cure Kids through the Cure Kids’ Elliott-Caughey Fund, named in honour of Cure Kids co-founders, the late Professor Sir Bob Elliott and Dr Ron Caughey. Over the years, this fund has played a crucial role in supporting research addressing childhood illnesses associated with deprivation in New Zealand.

Professor Sir Bob Elliott dedicated over 60 years of his life to making ground-breaking discoveries that have significantly improved the health of children in New Zealand. Among his notable contributions was research into the differences between A1 and A2 protein types in dairy, conducted in collaboration with scientist Dr. Corrie McLachlan. This early work laid the foundation for a2MC, a dairy nutritionals company fuelled by its purpose to pioneer the future of Dairy for good.

In addition to the recent $100,000 donation and significant prior contribution to Cure Kids’ Elliott-Caughey Fund, a2MC has also supported the research of Cure Kids Professorial Chair, Professor Andrew Day. Professor Day's research focuses on digestive health for children, including coeliac disease and irritable bowel disease.

Frances Soutter, CEO of Cure Kids, expressed gratitude, saying, "Cure Kids is delighted to have the ongoing and generous support of The a2 Milk Company. Their recent donation honours the legacy of Professor Sir Bob Elliott and demonstrates their shared vision of improving the lives of our tamariki."

David Bortolussi, Managing Director & CEO of The a2 Milk Company said of the donation, "The a2 Milk Company is proud to continue supporting Cure Kids, which reflects our dedication to advancing child health research in New Zealand, and acknowledging the remarkable legacy of Professor Sir Bob Elliott. We believe in making a meaningful impact on the lives of children, and our contribution to Cure Kids' Elliott-Caughey Fund is testament to our shared vision. Together, we strive to pioneer the future of dairy for good and contribute to the well-being of children."
