Mykal

Mykal has spastic dystonic quadriplegia (cerebral palsy) and has had too many surgeries to count in his lifetime already.

Cure Kids ambassador Mykal lights up any room, and although he misses out on a lot he has a joy that is contagious.

Mykal has spastic dystonic quadriplegia (cerebral palsy) and has had too many surgeries to count in his lifetime already.

Mykal’s  brain injury was caused as a result of his placenta deteriorating when he was around 32 weeks’ gestation. Mykal has no functional movement – he cannot sit, feed himself, hold a pen and is wheelchair bound. He loves being the center of attention and has an incredible sense of humour.

Overall, Mykal keeps very good health but he will always be needing surgeries and medication to manage and maintain his movement. Mykal loves Star Wars and Lego and even better Star Wars Lego!

Because Mykal doesn’t have much functional movement, his spare time is spent on screens, which open up the world to him.

He has an amazing team of support workers who help him with his needs. Mykal lives with his mum, dad and older sister in Papamoa.

Cure Kids funds research that is using robotic technology to improve the walking pattern of kids with cerebral palsy. It is hoped that this will improve the quality of lives of children living with this condition. Click here to read more about the research
