This study is the first of its kind in New Zealand and seeks to use state-of-the-art diagnostic testing to identify the genetic mutations causing cancer in children. The research will focus on children with hard-to-treat cancer and look for specific mutations in their genes. The information will then be used to treat the child’s cancer in the most targeted way possible. The aim of the project is to demonstrate that using advanced genetic testing for certain cancers can improve survival rates and quality of life for these children and their families.
