Yvonne is a paediatrician, who undertakes clinical research with the Department of Paediatrics: Child and Youth Health, University of Auckland. She has interests in paediatric endocrinology, including family-centred solutions for weight issues and diabetes, and is actively engaged in teaching, supervision and health workforce development. Yvonne works in multidisciplinary research teams whose work is translational in nature, finding innovative solutions to complex health problems relating to child health and wellbeing.

An example of this work is Whānau Pakari, a multidisciplinary healthy lifestyle programme based in Taranaki, that has now supported over 1,200 children and their families. Whilst this work has attracted local and international awards, the team’s greatest reward is seeing families achieve their goal of achieving healthy lifestyle change.

Yvonne’s research is increasingly focused on working collaboratively to improve prevailing healthcare services, and achieve health systems change. The team’s vision is to translate research findings to achieve high-quality service provision for all tamariki and rangatahi in Aotearoa/New Zealand and beyond.
